Mercedes boss close time to win races

That is the information of the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, which said the team led by Ross Brawn is preparing to unleash a major car upgrade for next month’s Spanish grand prix. If Mercedes’ W01 is not on the pace by June, the Brackley based team will switch its focus to the 2011 world championship.

“The basis of our car is right,” said Nico Rosberg, who was on the podium with the dominant Red Bulls at the end of Sunday’s Malaysian grand prix.

“We have very good developments coming, and I cannot wait,” added the 24-year-old German.

An unnamed team insider told the newspaper: “Brawn wants to win races by June at the latest, or he will write off the season and focus on next year.”

When the team was called Honda, its British boss similarly wrote off the 2008 season and then rolled out last year’s title winning Brawn BGP001.
