Yeongam very wet hours before Korean GPComments Off Four hours before the inaugural Korean grand prix, the brand new Yeongam venue is awash with rain. It started raining just before 10pm on Saturday night, and was heavy at times throughout the night and did not completely stop at any point. Some forecasts had predicted the weather would ease on Sunday morning, but at 11am the precipitation is still light and the skies still completely grey. The sheer amount of water that has fallen on the new track surface will ensure that the rubber laid by the F1 cars on Friday and Saturday has now been washed off. And the ‘weeping’ of asphalt oils from beneath the newly-laid top layer, mixed with the rain that is still falling at Yeongam, will ensure a very slippery surface for the race at 3pm. Expert forecasts at the circuit think the rain could stop completely and sunshine emerge at about midday, which would mean a damp surface for the race start is still a possibility. “I hope it stays wet and slippery!” enthused Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen. |

Silverstone cold and drizzly on Thursday morningComments Off As if right on cue for the beginning of the often weather-affected event, drizzle and cold air has greeted the formula one world at Silverstone early on Thursday morning. Before the press meets the drivers, the skies above the British grand prix venue are dim and cloudy, even though a day of rain is not forecast. Indeed, the outlook for the three days of track action beginning on Friday looks better, with temperatures expected to be in the mid 20s. “Sunshine or rain; either is good for me,” smiled Rubens Barrichello, who on Wednesday took part in BBC motoring show Top Gear’s popular ‘Star in A Reasonably Priced Car’ segment. The programme will air on Sunday evening. |

Blue skies and sunshine for Monaco practiceComments Off In the hours before Thursday practice, there is no sign of rain that is still forecast to fall this weekend in Monaco. Sunshine has been bouncing off the buildings all morning in the Principality, underneath clear blue skies, amid reports that grey cloud-cover could be set to move overhead in the afternoon. But some teams on Thursday morning are saying that, despite rain earlier this week and continuing reports of bad weather this weekend, round six of the world championship will in fact be a dry one. End of second day of unveiling in JerezComments Off Under a sunshine that the ‘scuderias’ in the racetrack were thankful for, the second session of unveiling began in the Jerez circuit. With the absence of Virgin Racing in the tracks, because there were no spare parts to repair the single-seater, most of the pilots ran for long periods of time. Today restarted the work that could not be done yesterday due to bad weather. The teams have collected more data and have been playing the cat and the mouse. Buemi’s Toro Rosso stopped the chronometer at 1:20.026, getting the best time of the day. Many tests and many data, would be the balance of the day, where the expected Valencia time duel did not happen. The media were left with the feeling that the duo reserved for later on. However, tomorrow if the climate allows it, there will be new unveiling with other pilots. Time classification 1. Sebastian Buemi (Toro Rosso) 1:20.026 (121 laps) |
