Ma Qing Hua joins HRT Formula 1 Team’s Driver Development ProgrammeComments Off HRT Formula 1 Team announces the incorporation of Chinese driver Ma Qing Hua to the Spanish team’s young driver development programme. The formation programme designed by HRT F1 Team for Ma Qing Hua includes professional assessment in his career as a driver, private tests with cars from different categories and simulator tests. If the results of the partnership are satisfactory, Qing Hua could take to the wheel of the F112 at the Formula 1 Young Driver test. Ma Qing Hua will perform his first official act with HRT Formula 1 Team on Thursday the 12th of April at a press conference previous to the Chinese Grand Prix (13th to 15th of April), which takes place at the Shanghai International Circuit. The details of the press conference will be announced shortly. The incorporation of Ma Qing Hua to HRT Formula 1 Team’s driver development programme is part of the Spanish team’s strategy in order to serve as a platform for the formation of professionals in the pinnacle of world motorsport. The driver born in Shanghai has been competing in different categories of national and international motorsport for many years. His incorporation to HRT F1 Team’s Driver Development Programme takes place after some simulator tests and a testing session in Cheste (Valencia) at the wheel of a World Series car. The qualities and attitude of Qing Hua convinced Luis Pérez-Sala of his potential to incorporate him to the programme which Dani Clos, HRT F1 Team test driver, is also a part of. Ma Qing Hua: “I’m very honoured to form a part of the driver development programme at HRT Formula 1 Team since, with work and effort, it will allow me to become the first Chinese Formula 1 driver. It’s a very special moment for me and it’s hard to express how happy I am. I’ve dreamt of becoming a Formula 1 driver since I was very small. I started in the karting world when I was 8 years old and I worked really hard to learn and become quicker every time. After competing in categories such as Formula campus, Formula Renault and F3, I learned a lot about car set-up, technique on circuits and team work to become more professional every time. And now finally my childhood dream has become true thanks to the opportunity that HRT has granted me to become an F1 driver. And even more so this year with all the drivers who are competing, with 6 world champions amongst them. Driving an F1 car will be the most incredible experience and I’m going to work hard to earn it. Thanks to HRT for offering me the chance to show what I’m capable of. And thanks to my family and everyone who has always supported me. This is only the beginning”. We like his conditions and we want to take part in his formation by incorporating him to the team’s Driver Development Programme so that he can participate in races and private tests, with the objective of him being able to take part in the Formula 1 tests reserved to young drivers. Due to my responsibility in the Circuit de Catalunya young driver programme, I’ve been able to follow his progress and personally assisted some tests he did. I knew he had potential, but I was surprised with his speed, safety, adaptation capacity, attitude and professionalism. Profile Date of Birth: 25th of December 1987 Ma Qing Hua started racing at the tender age of 8 and won the youth National Karting Championship when he was 12 years old. He continued to race and achieve successful results in karting until 2004, when he entered the Asian Formula Renault Series and won the championship. In 2005 he represented Team China in A1 Grand Prix. From here he would move on to Formula Renault 2.0 NEC, before competing in Formula 3 Spain and Formula 3 Spain “Copa de España”, managing two podiums this season. One year later, the Chinese driver took part in various events of the British Formula 3 International Series. In 2010 he represented Team China for two races in Superleague Formula before moving onto the Chinese Touring Car Championship in 2011 where he came away with the title after four wins and four podiums in the eight-race season. Costa says Ferrari lacked ‘style’ over sackingComments Off Aldo Costa has revealed he is unhappy with Ferrari’s comments in the wake of his departure last year. The Italian was stepped down as the famous team’s technical director, and he switched to Mercedes before the German marque made a significant step forwards with its 2012 car. He has remained quiet about his treatment by Ferrari until now, telling Autosprint magazine that the Maranello marque lacked “style and professionalism” as it handled its restructuring. Asked for more information, he said Ferrari explained “things that not only myself but also the whole world of formula one knows is not the truth”. Costa confirmed that he was referring to Ferrari’s suggestion that he lacked “creativity”. Still, he said he is not happy to see his old team struggling to make it into Q3 with the aggressive F2012. “I still have so many friends in Maranello, but now I want to be 100 per cent engaged on succeeding with Mercedes.” He said the Ross Brawn-led team has a “different” approach to Ferrari’s “that makes it easier to do things”. |

Alonso blames British media for bad imageComments Off Fernando Alonso has blamed the British media for his image as a spoilt number 1 driver. O Estado de S.Paulo correspondent Livio Oricchio asked the Spaniard if it is true that all is well inside his team so long as he does not share equal status with his teammate. “That is a belief that was created in 2007,” said the Ferrari driver, referring to his ill-fated single season alongside Lewis Hamilton at McLaren. “The reason was the contamination of the media, particularly the British. “I have been in formula one for 11 years. For ten, I was the consummate professional,” he explained. “Engineers, mechanics and my teammates could not say a word against my professionalism. “But in 2007, McLaren, the English press, week after week, contaminated our relationship, which was not bad. That is what led to this general impression about me. “But nothing changes for me, my values stay the same. When I went onto the market, the offers I received were as great before and after 2007,” added Alonso. Another perception is that Alonso, 30, is enjoying a position of privilege at Ferrari due to his links with main sponsor Santander, a Spanish bank. “Good, no?” he laughed. “Everyone can talk and think what they like, it’s part of the sport — the media too, especially with the internet.” F1′s next stop is Singapore, where Alonso won not only last year but also in 2008, when his Renault teammate Nelson Piquet deliberately crashed to bring out the safety car. The Spaniard insists he still counts the victory among his best. “There is something about the track that suits my driving style,” said Alonso. “I know it’s strange to you, but the victory of 2008 is just as special as the one of last year.” |

Sauber confirms Heidfeld to replace de la RosaComments Off Sauber confirmed on Tuesday morning that Pedro de la Rosa is leaving the Swiss team with immediate effect. The Hinwil based outfit said the Spanish veteran will be replaced for the forthcoming Singapore grand prix and beyond by former team driver Nick Heidfeld. The 33-year-old German’s contract will run “until the end of the season”, added Sauber in a media statement. The deal begins on Friday, presumably so Heidfeld can test one more time with Pirelli this week in Spain. “It was a hard decision for me to make and I want to thank Pedro for his professionalism,” said team boss Peter Sauber. “By signing Nick we have a driver we know extremely well who will help us to further judge the comparative potential of our car.” De la Rosa, who returned to the grid this year after seven years as McLaren’s test driver, said he was “surprised” by the decision. “But I respect it and would like to wish everyone good luck for the remainder of the season. I still intend to be in formula one for 2011,” he added. No mention was made of Heidfeld’s role with Pirelli, but it is reported he will have to leave the job, with de la Rosa being an ideal successor. |

Di Grassi buys into GP3 teamComments Off
Now a Virgin driver, the Brazilian has become a minor shareholder of the team that he and Vitaly Petrov drove to the GP2 constructors’ title in 2008, according to multiple Portuguese-language sources. “We are convinced that with his tremendous seriousness and professionalism, he will make an important contribution to the success we expect to achieve in a short time,” said owner Alejandro Agag. “After driving for the team, I’m offering my services in the sports area,” Brazilian di Grassi, 26, is quoted by publications including Terra, R7 and UOL. “I am eager to work on a project that is a genuine platform for young drivers and will try to help them prepare technically and tactically,” he added. GP3, a feeder series for GP2, was launched in 2010, and also features a team part-owned by Mark Webber. |
