Prost will not see ‘Senna’ movie Prost will not see ‘Senna’ movieComments Off

Alain Prost has revealed he has no desire to see the highly-lauded feature film about his former nemesis Ayrton Senna.
The award-winning ‘Senna’ movie focuses strongly on legendary Senna’s on and off-track rivalry with Frenchman Prost, who was portrayed as the politicking villain.

“I haven’t seen it and I don’t want to see it,” the 57-year-old told the Russian website F1News.

“I definitely don’t agree with how they went about it,” Prost explained. “I spent a lot of time trying to explain to the makers that they are wrong.”

The Frenchman was also asked about the late Ayrton’s nephew Bruno, who in 2012 will race for Williams-Renault, a combination that in 1993 powered Prost to the last of his four titles.

“Bruno is a great guy and I mean that sincerely,” he said.

“I cannot judge his ability as a driver, because it’s premature to talk about that, but he is a good person.”

Senna debut delivers two sponsors for Renault Senna debut delivers two sponsors for RenaultComments Off

The appointment of Bruno Senna has already delivered two new sponsors to the Renault team.

With Nick Heidfeld contentiously stepped down before Spa-Francorchamps, Senna fended off speculation his sponsors had paid for the race seat.

“If you look at the team then there are no new logos on the car or on myself,” he insisted.

But that was before Sunday, when on the grid Brazil’s Globo Esporte spotted two new logos.

One belongs to the major Brazilian oil company OGX, headed by business baron Eike Batista da Silva who is the eighth richest person in the world.

A spokesman for Senna, the nephew of Brazil’s famous triple world champion Ayrton Senna, confirmed the deal with the holding company EBX.

The other new logo on the black Renault in Belgium was the razor brand Gillette.

Globo said both sponsors “were negotiating with (Senna) for the 2012 season” but the Heidfeld replacement “accelerated the deals”.

After impressively qualifying seventh at Spa, Senna finished outside the points due to smashing into Jaime Alguersuari at the first corner and receiving a drive-through penalty.

He will definitely race at Monza next weekend.

Senna unsure of F1 seat for 2011 Senna unsure of F1 seat for 2011Comments Off

With less than 90 days until the 2011 season kicks off, Bruno Senna has admitted he is not sure he will be in Bahrain.

The great Ayrton Senna’s nephew had a difficult debut season in formula one with the uncompetitive new Spanish team HRT.

It had been reported Senna had a chance of moving on for 2011 to the more promising Team Lotus outfit, but Brazil’s Globo Esporte said the 27-year-old “came close to signing but the negotiations failed”.

Asked in Sao Paulo on Monday about his prospects for 2011, he answered: “There is nothing definite.

“I am still negotiating but it is not easy to find a free seat.”

When asked what teams he is negotiating with, Senna added: “Those with free seats.”

HRT, Renault, Virgin and Force India all have seats whose occupants have not been officially announced for next season.

Senna admits that HRT was not the ideal place to prove his talents this year.

“The season was difficult and I was unable to demonstrate what I can do,” he confirmed.

Bianchi to be Ferrari test driver in 2011 Bianchi to be Ferrari test driver in 2011Comments Off

Jules Bianchi has been named by Ferrari as an official F1 test driver for the 2011 season.

But a spokesman insisted that the Italian team’s full plans for its support driver programme for next year have not yet been divulged.

Frenchman Bianchi, 21, who raced in GP2 this year and was a frontrunner, was already under long term contract to the Maranello based team as a development driver.

Ferrari announced on Thursday that he will be a “test driver” for the F1 team in 2011, and will contest the two-day young driver test in Abu Dhabi next week.

But the third/reserve role is different, and in 2010 it was fulfilled by Giancarlo Fisichella and Marc Gene. Luca Badoer is also a Ferrari test driver.

Bianchi is managed by Felipe Massa’s manager Nicolas Todt.

He is the grandson of Mauro Bianchi, a GT world champion, and the nephew of Lucien, Le Mans winner and competitor at 19 grands prix in the 60s.

The Ferrari spokesman said more announcements about F1 testing roles for the 2011 season are scheduled for later this year.

Senna in talks for Lotus-Renault switch Senna in talks for Lotus-Renault switchComments Off

Bruno Senna, the nephew of the great Ayrton Senna, is in talks to switch for 2011 from struggling HRT to F1′s best new team Lotus.

That is the claim of Brazil’s Globo Esporte, noting that the move would reinvoke the fabled Lotus/Renault/Senna combination of the 1980s.

Rookie Senna, who turned 27 earlier this month, has had a difficult debut season in 2010 at the wheel of the slowest and least developed car on the grid fielded by the Spanish newcomer Hispania.

“Bruno Senna is close to getting something better,” said the Portuguese language report.

“He is in talks with Lotus and these talks are already well advanced,” Globo added, nominating Jarno Trulli as the driver most likely to leave the Malaysian team in the event that Senna is signed.

The report cited sources “close to the driver” as insisting that Senna cannot finalise the deal until his sponsors agree, adding that these talks with “several companies” are also already taking place.

Globo Esporte also said Lotus’ announcement of its Renault engine deal for 2011 will be made next weekend at Interlagos.

Late triple world champion Ayrton Senna won his first grand prix at the wheel of a Renault-powered Lotus in 1985.

He won a further 5 grands prix in a Lotus-Renault, as well as 24 podiums, 16 pole positions and 150 points before moving to McLaren.

Senna backs Massa after Brazilian media attacks Senna backs Massa after Brazilian media attacksComments Off

Bruno Senna has defended Felipe Massa after the Ferrari driver moved over to let his Ferrari teammate win the recent German grand prix.

In a team orders saga that is set to be resolved at a forthcoming meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, Brazilian Massa has been chastised by his native press for lacking courage.

But countryman Senna told the Brazilian media this week: “I think it’s very easy to judge when you’re not in the person’s skin.

“I think everyone does what he thinks is right at the time of the situation, and it’s easy for an outsider to criticise,” added the HRT driver and nephew of the great and revered Ayrton Senna.

Senna, 26, also hit back at claims that Massa’s season in general has been disappointing.

“They think it’s easy — just more speed,” he said.

“But formula one is a technical sport with very great variables.  Massa has said he is having trouble warming up the tyres, and it is really very difficult.

“Sometimes a car combines better with a particular driving style.  Everyone has seen how good he is when he fought for a recent championship, so I think there’s nothing to discuss,” added Senna.

Bruno Senna has admitted he wants to stay at HRT next year.
The 26-year-old made his debut with the struggling new Spanish team this season, but has recorded only 3 finishes so far and never qualified higher than 21st.

But according to the news agency Reuters, the Brazilian nephew of the great Ayrton Senna “said HRT … remained his main focus for next year”.

After driving his late uncle’s race-winning 1993 McLaren at Goodwood last weekend, Senna said: “At the end of the day you never know what can and cannot happen in the future.

“All I can do is keep pushing and hopefully get some good results.”

Senna said 2010 is not a wasted season.

“I think I have developed a lot, learned a lot in formula one. I have improved so much on driving and being assured of myself, in motivation.

“In the end of the day, all I think about is making my career long.

“It’s a bit frustrating when you are trying to compete but can’t,” he continued. “But at the end of the day my career is not about only this year.”

The HRT is not only slow but also difficult to control. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old is happy to be a member in the premier class. Well, must follow the next step.

“Formula 1 is so difficult that one can not imagine. One can only react,” Senna is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport ‘. “In the first two or three races I had severe adjustment problems of the sports cars I’ve driven in the past year, back on formula cars. At a certain point, I got my normal F1 driving style found again.”
The greatest successes celebrated Senna in the British Formula 3, which he finished as joint Ritter (2006), and in the GP2. In the junior formula, which is held under Formula 1, missed the youngster the title in 2008 only just. “I was always one of the top drivers. Therefore, it is now very ugly for me so far to go back. This includes the announcement that he may be in a better car champion. “What is clear is that easy to say but difficult to put into practice. But I think basically because I have the potential. Whenever I had to take another step, I’ve done.”

Fittipaldi to be F1 steward in Canada Fittipaldi to be F1 steward in CanadaComments Off

Jun.10 (GMM)  Emerson Fittipaldi will be the race steward presiding alongside the three FIA officials at this weekend’s Canadian grand prix.

63-year-old Brazilian Fittipaldi won his two F1 world championships in 1972 and 1974, before winning the Indy 500 twice and becoming the Indycar title holder in 1989.

In formula one, he won his first race during his rookie season for Lotus in 1970, and two years later become F1′s youngest champion at 25.

In 1974 he moved to McLaren and won the title again, but then moved to his brother Wilson Fittipaldi’s team and struggled.

He stopped driving in F1 at the end of 1980 at the age of 33, joining his brother in managing the team before it fell apart in late 1982.

Fittipaldi switched to American CART racing in 1984, winning the title in 1989 at the age of 43.  At 47 he won the Indy 500 for the second time, but an injury ended his Champ Car career in 1996 when he was 50.

He was a Champ Car team owner in 2003 and recently the boss of the Brazilian A1 GP team.

Fittipaldi’s nephew Christian drove in F1 for Minardi and Footwork between 1992-1994.

Senna not as good as uncle says Brundle Senna not as good as uncle says BrundleComments Off

May 3 (GMM)  Bruno Senna is not as good as his late uncle, but Martin Brundle thinks a deeper analysis of the Brazilian rookie’s performance so far would be unfair.

Brundle, who had a fierce battle with eventual triple world champion Ayrton Senna for the British F3 title in 1983, is now observing 26-year-old Bruno’s rookie season as commentator for British television BBC.

The Briton concedes it is “spooky” to note the physical similarities between uncle and nephew, particularly with the helmet visor up.

“Senna is a fine young driver and seems a very good human being,” said Brundle.

“His GP2 performance suggests that he is worthy of a chance in F1 but it is fair to say he doesn’t appear to have the potential of his late uncle Ayrton,” he added.

But Brundle warned that Senna, who was considered for the Brawn seat alongside Jenson Button last year, cannot be judged too harshly in 2010.

“Given the Hispania car that he is driving, it is virtually impossible to make any further judgement at this time,” he said.
