Ma Qing Hua joins HRT Formula 1 Team’s Driver Development ProgrammeComments Off HRT Formula 1 Team announces the incorporation of Chinese driver Ma Qing Hua to the Spanish team’s young driver development programme. The formation programme designed by HRT F1 Team for Ma Qing Hua includes professional assessment in his career as a driver, private tests with cars from different categories and simulator tests. If the results of the partnership are satisfactory, Qing Hua could take to the wheel of the F112 at the Formula 1 Young Driver test. Ma Qing Hua will perform his first official act with HRT Formula 1 Team on Thursday the 12th of April at a press conference previous to the Chinese Grand Prix (13th to 15th of April), which takes place at the Shanghai International Circuit. The details of the press conference will be announced shortly. The incorporation of Ma Qing Hua to HRT Formula 1 Team’s driver development programme is part of the Spanish team’s strategy in order to serve as a platform for the formation of professionals in the pinnacle of world motorsport. The driver born in Shanghai has been competing in different categories of national and international motorsport for many years. His incorporation to HRT F1 Team’s Driver Development Programme takes place after some simulator tests and a testing session in Cheste (Valencia) at the wheel of a World Series car. The qualities and attitude of Qing Hua convinced Luis Pérez-Sala of his potential to incorporate him to the programme which Dani Clos, HRT F1 Team test driver, is also a part of. Ma Qing Hua: “I’m very honoured to form a part of the driver development programme at HRT Formula 1 Team since, with work and effort, it will allow me to become the first Chinese Formula 1 driver. It’s a very special moment for me and it’s hard to express how happy I am. I’ve dreamt of becoming a Formula 1 driver since I was very small. I started in the karting world when I was 8 years old and I worked really hard to learn and become quicker every time. After competing in categories such as Formula campus, Formula Renault and F3, I learned a lot about car set-up, technique on circuits and team work to become more professional every time. And now finally my childhood dream has become true thanks to the opportunity that HRT has granted me to become an F1 driver. And even more so this year with all the drivers who are competing, with 6 world champions amongst them. Driving an F1 car will be the most incredible experience and I’m going to work hard to earn it. Thanks to HRT for offering me the chance to show what I’m capable of. And thanks to my family and everyone who has always supported me. This is only the beginning”. Luis Pérez-Sala, Team Principal: “We are working so that one of the team’s signs of identity is to serve as a platform to launch young drivers, both nationally and internationally. Ma Qing Hua is one those talents in which we believe and we want to help him in his career so that he can make it to Formula 1. We like his conditions and we want to take part in his formation by incorporating him to the team’s Driver Development Programme so that he can participate in races and private tests, with the objective of him being able to take part in the Formula 1 tests reserved to young drivers. Due to my responsibility in the Circuit de Catalunya young driver programme, I’ve been able to follow his progress and personally assisted some tests he did. I knew he had potential, but I was surprised with his speed, safety, adaptation capacity, attitude and professionalism. All these virtues make us believe that his incorporation to the programme will be very positive and will lead to a fruitful and lasting relationship”. Profile Date of Birth: 25th of December 1987 Ma Qing Hua started racing at the tender age of 8 and won the youth National Karting Championship when he was 12 years old. He continued to race and achieve successful results in karting until 2004, when he entered the Asian Formula Renault Series and won the championship. In 2005 he represented Team China in A1 Grand Prix. From here he would move on to Formula Renault 2.0 NEC, before competing in Formula 3 Spain and Formula 3 Spain “Copa de España”, managing two podiums this season. One year later, the Chinese driver took part in various events of the British Formula 3 International Series. In 2010 he represented Team China for two races in Superleague Formula before moving onto the Chinese Touring Car Championship in 2011 where he came away with the title after four wins and four podiums in the eight-race season. Career Summary: 2011: Chinese Touring Car Championship: 1st in the Championship (4 wins and 4 podiums) |

Di Resta would be ‘happy’ with Mercedes seatComments Off Paul di Resta on Friday admitted he can see himself wearing silver overalls in the near future. “I certainly would not mind a Mercedes. It would make me happy but there is currently no agreement,” the 25-year-old reigning DTM champion with Mercedes told Germany’s Sport Bild. “I still feel a part of the Mercedes family and I certainly wouldn’t mind being a full member again one day,” added di Resta. “At the moment I have a contract with Force India and I am giving that my full attention.” Given his impressive performance so far in 2011 alongside the very experienced Adrian Sutil, it is an interesting side-note that in 2006, di Resta beat his teammate – a certain Sebastian Vettel – to the Formula 3 Euro Series championship. He insists it doesn’t mean he is better than Vettel, the reigning world champion and runaway 2011 championship leader. “That (2006) was then,” said di Resta. “You can never compare the present with the past, so I am not going to say that I am better than the reigning world champion.” |

Rosberg to test Mercedes DTM car at HockenheimComments Off Nico Rosberg is set to test a DTM car this weekend. The event will be a showpiece at Hockenheim as the 2011 German touring car championship kicks off. According to Bild newspaper, the 25-year-old German will be appearing for Mercedes, for whom he races in formula one. The report said the outing will be Rosberg’s first proper run in a DTM car. “As a racing driver I grew up in the DTM, on the programme with the Formula BMW Junior and Formula 3 series,” he said. “But I’ve never driven a DTM car, except from a few metres at the end of last season for the victory party for Paul di Resta’s championship in Stuttgart,” added Rosberg. Meanwhile, F1 engines were firing on Wednesday at Duxford (UK) aerodrome, where alongside the Caterham announcement Team Lotus test driver Ricardo Teixeira was straight-line testing the T128. According to Speed Week, Bruno Senna was also in action for Renault with a similar aerodynamic test at Duxford, and the Brazilian will now travel to Spa-Francorchamps to demonstrate the team’s F1 car during the World Series event. “I will have the 2010 car on Saturday and Sunday,” Senna confirmed to Globo. “The basic idea is to entertain the crowd but it’s also a chance for me to keep in action.” |

Money now too important for F1 careers – TrulliComments Off Jarno Trulli believes wealth is becoming too important as the remaining spaces on the F1 grid fill up for 2011. Trulli, one of the oldest and most experienced drivers on the grid, thinks the situation could have knock-on effects for the next generation. “Today it is so difficult for young drivers,” the Italian told Auto Motor und Sport during an interview. “Money is playing too big a role and the lower series like Formula 3 are too expensive. I couldn’t repeat my own career these days,” added Trulli, who made his F1 debut in 1997 with Minardi. The 36-year-old has also raced for major teams including Renault and Toyota, but in 2010 he returned to the back of the grid with Lotus. “It was not a good season,” said Trulli. In an interview published in Italian by italiaracing, he was more strident. “I think I deserved a medal for being the unluckiest driver of the year,” said Trulli, whose car regularly broke down last season. “There’s no need to say it was the worse season in all my life.” To the German publication, he continued: “It was a bit frustrating but it’s part of the business. I have accepted it as a transitional season.” Worse still, Trulli insists that the green T127 was not a car to his liking. “I didn’t have what I needed for my driving style,” he explained, “so it made the task doubly difficult. “I need a stiff car that gives me good feedback, but from the first test it was clear that I wouldn’t have that.” He knows Lotus is pushing hard to catch up, but can understand some of the criticism of the new teams from established names including Ferrari. “In the end we are all in the same race and the incumbents should respect those who are just beginning. On the other hand it is true that four seconds behind is too much. “Now we are a year further ahead and we need a big aero step and a lighter and stiffer car. There is an awful lot to do and if we can do it, then we can fight with the back of the midfield.” But even that is not his goal. “I must still have the skills that make some people keep believing in me, but just being here is not what I want, which is winning races and the title.” Trulli said he knows first-hand how difficult is Team Lotus’ task. “I raced for Toyota, with great resources and unlimited possibilities, but they never achieved what they wanted to,” he noted. |

Williams hopes to keep Hulkenberg for 2011Comments Off Sir Frank Williams sounds unlikely to oust German rookie Nico Hulkenberg for the 2011 season. It has been suggested the 23-year-old could make way for Venezuelan pay-driver Pastor Maldonado. But in an interview with the BBC, the Oxfordshire based team’s founder, boss and biggest shareholder Williams heaped praise on Hulkenberg. “It was a little disappointing, maybe, in the first few races, perhaps because he was being over-cautious,” he said. “But lately he has become very competitive and we have just seen the beginning of something exceptional.” And when asked if F1 spectators will be seeing more of Hulkenberg, Williams added: “Absolutely. We do hope so yes. “He won all the way up to Formula 3 and GP2, he has won every single championship and in the right team, hopefully us one day, he will win the world championship as well in formula one.” The latest rumour is that it might instead be Rubens Barrichello moving aside for Maldonado, but Williams also had praise for the veteran Brazilian. “He has enormous experience. He is now, without doubt, the most experienced driver in the pitlane and he does demonstrate that very frequently,” said Williams. “His technique is very understated, he’s a very smooth driver. He likes to be mollycoddled emotionally a little bit, and he likes being told how good he is, but we don’t have any problem in telling him, we believe strongly in him. “He’s good fun and very experienced and that is a great value to any team,” he added. |

Senna: “Formula 1 is very difficult”Comments Off For the first time since 1994, the name Senna in Formula 1 start list. The season opener went for Bruno yet resinous. In eight races of the Brazilians saw only twice in 16th the checkered flag. The HRT is not only slow but also difficult to control. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old is happy to be a member in the premier class. Well, must follow the next step. “Formula 1 is so difficult that one can not imagine. One can only react,” Senna is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport ‘. “In the first two or three races I had severe adjustment problems of the sports cars I’ve driven in the past year, back on formula cars. At a certain point, I got my normal F1 driving style found again.” Talk big, triple world champion Ayrton’s nephew Senna has already beaten around. This includes the announcement that he may be in a better car champion. “What is clear is that easy to say but difficult to put into practice. But I think basically because I have the potential. Whenever I had to take another step, I’ve done.” |

Kubica not a fan of SingaporeComments Off “I like it when the walls are close to the track and if you can not afford any mistakes, because that is challenging and makes driving more fun,” said Kubica. “Even in the Macau Formula 3 I especially liked or in Formula 1 Monaco. The only street circuit, which I do not like is Singapore. Why am I not there, the track may, but I can not say for sure.” The discussion is now about to go in the direction the formula 1, for among the fans, the discontent with Bernie Ecclestone’s house and court architect Hermann Tilke increasing. The German has built in recent years superb facilities such as Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, but is criticized for its routes have no character. Many fans believe that the idea of safety is partly already taken too seriously. But: “That just is not that,” said Kubica. “I’m a fan of street circuits, but also a fan of security, because I had here a serious accident. It depends on the balance between risk and safety. The formula one has become, thanks to the FIA and thanks to the team much more secure. If I would indeed like this happens an accident ten years ago, today I would not be sitting here, maybe more. ” In discussion forums time and again the argument that run-off should not be paved, as this driving mistake will be punished only lightly. We used to cut the chicane in from Montreal, was quick views of the front wing off, now it is hardly out of the wind shadow of the man in front. But the tarmac run-off areas have their advantages. “In turn eight in Istanbul, many people took off,” says Nico Rosberg. ‘If there is a gravel and would have had to close the track standing wall, there would have been serious accidents. The risk is mainly that the car in the gravel into place and somersaults. That would be dangerous, so I think it is a good development, in such a tarmac run-off to have curves. ” Felipe Massa puts it even more plainly: “Turn Eight in Monaco would not be very nice,” the Ferrari driver. The drivers love the one hand the great challenges such as Spa-Francorchamps Suzuka or most are, but at the same time conscious of the fact that the formula is an extremely dangerous and the security therefore must not be left out of sight. Lewis Hamilton is among those who see the rather loose. “My intention is only to the asphalt between the white lines,” the McLaren star. “The FIA makes this line around a great job in terms of security, so we need to focus not. The most important thing is how cool the track – and that is between the white lines.” Hamilton also insists that it is “a fine line” between safety and danger aspect. |

The Spaniard, Soucek nears positions with RenaultComments Off A few days ago, we mentioned the pilots we considered as options to cover the vacant places in the ‘scuderias’. Now, in the case of Renault, there is a free seat and according to rumors in the media (MARCA), the Hispanic/Austrian, Andy Soucek is closer than we assumed. We had published that this option was remote, but we must correct ourselves since sources from the Madrid newspaper have declared that his offer was quite well received by Renault. If for us, the Russian Vitaly Petrov’s offer, together with his career, was the most viable, we might well have to “swallow our words” if the Spaniard (even though he has double nationality, he runs with the Spanish flag), Soucek gets this coveted seat. Who is he Andy Christian Soucek was born on June 14, 1985 in Madrid, Spain. Because his father is from Austria, he has double nationality, however Soucek runs with the Spanish flag because he says “he feels Spanish.” In 1997, he began his professional career as karting pilot. That year, he participated in the Spanish Karting Championship and in the Madrid Kart Championship, with 5th and 3rd places, respectively. He continued in different karting categories until 2001, year in which he entered the Portuguese Ford Formula, finishing 8th. That year he was champion of the Margutti of Totoya Kart trophy. From 2002 to 2005 he took part in the Spanish Formula 3, first in the Racing Engineering Spanish team with 8th position in the championship, while the following year he arrives 4th racing for the EV team. In 2004, he continues with the EV team, but only for two races because he was acquired for the rest of the season by the GTA team ‘scuderia’, arriving fourth again at the end of the season. A year later, he becomes the Spanish Formula 3 champion with the Llusia Racing team. |

De La Rosa confirmed as BMW Sauber pilotComments Off The Spanish pilot, Pedro Martinez De la Rosa will be the BMW Sauber ‘Scuderia’ second official pilot in the 2010 Formula One World Championship, as confirmed this Tuesday through a press release by the team based in Switzerland. A year later, still in Arrows, he added two more points in 17 tests, before signing with Jaguar for the 2001 season. In this racing-team, the Spaniard, could not shine due to the not very competitive single-seated he drove, attaining only fifth (Italy 2001) and sixth positions (Canada 2001) as his most outstanding performances. JUMP TO MCLAREN AND PODIUM IN HUNGRY. From 2003 on, De la Rosa he becomes McLaren’s test driver, and two years later he gets the chance to dispute a race with the Anglo-German racing-team, the Bahrain Grand Prix, where he finished on fifth position. Even though there was much speculation around De la Rosa’s jump to an official wheel –specially as a result of Fernando Alonso leaving McLaren-, finally the Finish Heikki Kovalainen closed the doors on him and the last three seasons he has not been able to challenge any Grand Prix. During the last months everything seemed to indicate that the Catalan –who has been President of the Pilot Association for two years-, would come back to the competition by the hand of the Spanish debutant team, the Campos Meta, negotiations with the Adrian Campos’ racing-team were interrupted so it will finally be the Sauber team which takes in the veteran pilot. PETER SAUBER VALUES HIS “EXPERIENCE.” “Pedro has worked during the last years for one of the best teams of technical level athletics. We, as a team, want to take advantage of his experience, as we would like Kamui to do,” stated in a press release Peter Sauber, Principal of the team. Likewise, the team principal of the Catalan’s new ‘Scuderia’ underlines that “the combination of an experienced pilot with a bright young hope usually renders good results.” He seemed “sure” that in this case, “it’s what’s going to happen next season.” “Of course, it’s essential that we can give them a good car and I have a very optimistic view of the evolution we can achieve at our factory. We’re capable of continuing our work with the 2010 car, just as we had programmed, despite of the recent uncertainty period”, Peter Sauber pointed out. |
