Dani Clos will take part in the first free practice session at the Spanish GP(0) Spanish driver Dani Clos will step into the F112 for the first time on Friday to take part in the first free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix which will take place at the Circuit de Catalunya. 23 year-old Clos will substitute teammate Narain Karthikeyan for that session and will join Pedro de la Rosa for the first 90 minutes of practice in Montmeló. It will be history in the making for HRT Formula 1 Team at the Circuit de Catalunya since this will be the first time that two Spanish drivers hit the track forming a part of a Spanish team at the Spanish Grand Prix. It will be a moment to remember for Spanish motorsport and a great opportunity for Clos to prove his worth in front of his home crowd. After having completed 377.67 kilometres at the helm of the F111 in the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi last November and having joined the team as an official test driver in February, Dani Clos will take another step on Friday and will fulfill another vital aspect of his testing role by completing his first laps at the wheel of the F112. A car that will be brining a series of aerodynamic upgrades for this important Grand Prix. Dani Clos: “I’m delighted to have this opportunity. Sainz jr on track for Toro Rosso future(0) Carlos Sainz jr is on course for a future in formula one. The 17-year-old Spaniard is the son of Carlos Sainz, the former two-time world rally champion. Sainz jr, however, has pursued a career in open wheelers, and – now that Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne have stepped up – he is the new cream of energy drink Red Bull’s junior driver programme. And another direct link to the world of formula one for Sainz jr is his new sponsorship deal with Cepsa, the Spanish oil company that is also Red Bull-owned Toro Rosso’s main backer. Sainz jr’s new Cepsa deal is for his participation this year in the British and Euroseries F3 categories, but “Our intention is to continue (beyond 2012),” Cepsa co-chairman Santiago Bergareche is quoted by Marca newspaper. “Hopefully everything goes well and Carlos will be in that world (F1) one day,” added Cepsa chairman Alfonso Escamez. He said the deal does not guarantee Sainz jr a future in f1. “The sponsors have no say on the teams of the drivers. We can try to influence, to give our opinion, but we are not (able to decide) on that side. “We hope that it does happen, but it will not necessarily.” |

Spaniard Maria de Villota joins to MarussiaComments Off Spaniard Maria De Villota has become a Marussia F1 Team test driver. Maria has raced in a variety of single-seater and sports car categories, including Spanish F3, the Daytona 24 Hours, the Euroseries 3000 and Superleague Formula Championship. Maria has also experienced a Formula One cockpit previously, having received a test drive courtesy of the team formerly known as Lotus Renault F1 Team at Paul Ricard in August of last year, where she achieved 300kms of running. As the daughter of former F1 driver and British Formula One Series Champion Emilio de Villota, Maria has always dreamed of following in his footsteps to reach the highest level of motorsport. Her integration into the Marussia F1 Team means she will have the opportunity to work with racing drivers operating at the pinnacle of the sport and, later in the year, the chance to drive the MR01. John Booth, Team Principal, Marussia F1 Team, commented:
“We are pleased to welcome Maria to our test driver programme, which will enable her to be integrated into a Formula One team environment and gain a vast amount of experience that will be useful to her career progression. Dani Clos joins HRT F1 Team as its new test driver for 2012Comments Off HRT F1 Team has reached an agreement with Dani Clos by which the young 23-year-old driver from Barcelona will become test driver of the Spanish outfit for the 2012 season.
The incorporation of Clos is another step in the team’s aspirations of establishing itself as a platform for young talents to reach the pinnacle of world motorsport.
Dani Clos will form an integral part of the team, taking part in several free practice sessions on Fridays and travelling to every Grand Prix throughout the season, with the main objective of learning and getting to know the team. There is a lot of hard work ahead of him but Dani will have the whole team’s support, including that of his teammates Narain Karthikeyan and Pedro de la Rosa, to help him learn and progress in such a demanding environment.
Dani Clos experienced his first contact with the team this past November, during the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi, and made the most of the opportunity given to him. The good sensations that the team and driver had, along with the objective of strengthening HRT F1 Team, helped to reach a quick agreement that was desired by both parties.
The Spanish driver will start to exert his functions as the team’s test driver immediately and will be with the team for the third pre-season tests in Barcelona from the 1st to the 4th of March.

Berger: Toro Rosso eyed di Resta years agoComments Off Paul di Resta’s formula one career almost got off to a flying start a few years ago. His career however seemed on a fast track at the end of 2006, when he beat his teammate Sebastian Vettel to the coveted F3 Euroseries title. It was then that di Resta caught the attention of former Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger. “Franz Tost and I considered signing him years ago,” the Austrian great revealed to Sportmagazin. “He has great potential.” That is not Berger’s only regret from his days with Toro Rosso — another is signing the multiple Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais. “I was wrong about him,” said the former Ferrari and McLaren driver. “He came from America where he had won everything, but formula one was just too fast for him. “The late braking was too much for him,” added Berger. |

Bottas accepts Williams’ Abu Dhabi test axeComments Off Valtteri Bottas has refused to criticise the Williams team for not scheduling a test day for him in November. The 20-year-old Finn has been a frontrunner in the F3 Euroseries in 2010, whilst serving as the famous British team Williams’ test and reserve driver. He said earlier in 2010 that he has done some aerodynamic straightline testing in the FW32 this year “and after the season (I will do) the young drivers test in Abu Dhabi”. But whilst confirming that Bottas is staying as test driver next year, Williams announced this week that it will be F2 champion Dean Stoneman and Pastor Maldonado at the wheel of the car for November’s Abu Dhabi test. But Bottas is not critical of the team, despite missing out on the test opportunity. “They need to test someone else,” he is quoted by Turun Sanomat newspaper. “It doesn’t change anything for me. “I respect their decisions and I’m working as usual to support the team,” added Bottas, who is managed by Mika Hakkinen. Bottas will still be in Abu Dhabi, having scheduled a test with the GP2 team ART. |

No Williams vacancy for 2011 says reserve BottasComments Off
Williams reserve driver Valtteri Bottas has put his hopes of stepping into the team’s race cockpit on hold until 2012.The 21-year-old Finn, third in the F3 Euroseries standings, admitted recently that British team Williams was “not likely to change” its current driver lineup for 2011. “The next step would be GP2,” Bottas, who is managed by Mika Hakkinen, said in July. He has now told Finland’s Turun Sanomat newspaper that Rubens Barrichello does indeed look set to have his Williams deal extended. “He is still fast,” Bottas is quoted as saying. “He has been really useful to the team and it’s true to say a big part of the development of the car is due to him,” he added. Meanwhile, Williams’ Austrian minority co-owner Toto Wolff has told the Kleine Zeitung newspaper that Barrichello’s rookie teammate Nico Hulkenberg is also likely to keep his seat. “Of all the young drivers he is probably the best at the moment,” he said. “He is actually remarkable; only the experience is missing. “I feel quite comfortable with this driver combination. My word has at least as much weight as the others on the board, and this applies to the drivers as well,” added Wolff. |

GP2 team ART withdraws bid for 2011 F1 debutComments Off The French GP2 outfit ART Grand Prix has withdrawn its application to complete the formula one grid in 2011. In a statement, the team said it worked on the project for “several months” and had “forged strong bonds with several technical and financial partners”. “But with unfavourable economic conditions (the team) could not gather the necessary guarantees to ensure the stability of the project in the long term,” said ART. The team said it has postponed the project to “a later date” and “remains completely focused and dedicated” on its other activities. Headed by Nicolas Todt, the son of FIA president Jean Todt and manager of the Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, ART also races in the F3 Euroseries and GP3. |

Tester Bottas must win races for Williams futureComments Off
Jun.16 (GMM) Williams’ new test driver must start winning races if he is to progress further in formula one. That is the admission of the Grove based team’s technical director Sam Michael, referring to Williams’ 2010 test and reserve driver Valtteri Bottas. The 20-year-old Finn is also contesting this year’s F3 Euroseries, and he drove in the same series last year as well as British F3, but has won no races so far. Earlier this month, however, Bottas did win the F3 Masters event at Zandvoort, as he also did in 2009. “Of course, it was a brilliant performance,” Michael is quoted by the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat. “Valtteri is the first person to have won the event twice and the Masters has always meant a lot to Williams. “But he knows what he needs to do. We all expect him to win the Euroseries and hopefully he will do it soon,” added Sam Michael. “Valterri is a clever guy and he knows that he has to start winning races in F3, and only then will we look together at the next stage.” |

French F1 hopeful ART not expecting FIA ‘gifts’Comments Off ART is not expecting a free ticket onto the 2011 grid, even though the French team’s boss is the son of FIA president Jean Todt. Nicolas Todt, 32, responded to rumours his Burgundy-based outfit is favourite to win F1′s 13th place in formula one due to the family link to the ruling body. “My father is anything but stupid,” Todt said in the latest edition of France’s Auto Hebdo magazine. “For us, we need to do things even better than the best in order to not be open to criticism,” he added. “Our dossier needs to be better than any others, because I do not expect any gifts from the FIA, quite the contrary,” said Todt. ART already races in the formative F3 Euroseries, GP2 and GP3 categories. Todt manages not only Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, but also the French 20-year-old Jules Bianchi, who currently races for ART’s GP2 team and is a part of Ferrari’s driver development programme. As recently as this week, Bianchi was at the wheel of a 2008 Ferrari at Vallelunga. Nicolas Todt admitted he would like to see ART enter formula one as a French team with a French driver at the wheel. “That would be even more enjoyable,” he conceded. “And even better with French technical partners as well. French GP2 team ART confirms bid for 2011 F1 entryComments Off The French GP2 outfit ART Grand Prix is bidding to become the thirteenth team on the 2011 formula one grid. “Yes, we have applied to join the world championship in 2011,” Frederic Vasseur, co-founder, confirmed to France’s Auto Hebdo. The team is also headed by Nicolas Todt, son of FIA president Jean Todt and manager of the Ferrari driver Felipe Massa. ART also races in F3 Euroseries and GP3. Expressions of interest for the 13th place closed on April 15, and the FIA is said to be moving towards a final decision by July. “We did not want to confirm our willingness to engage in formula one until now, to best prepare for this very complex issue and not compromise our current activities,” Vasseur added. Vasseur also said the existing F1 teams have been informed “of our intentions”, adding that he has “good relationships with Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault”. “The choice of engine is not yet defined,” he insisted. Auto Hebdo said Epsilon Euskadi, Durango and Stefan GP are also bidding for the last place in the 2011 pitlane. (GMM) |
