Reports link James Key with Ferrari move(0) James Key could be the next formula one engineer to join F1′s struggling giant Ferrari. Multiple media sources, including the authoritative Italian specialist newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, say the Maranello based team is interested in Key, a 40-year-old Briton. Key’s career dates back to the Jordan days, continuing through the transition to Force India, and he eventually joined Sauber in 2010. He was the highly respected technical director at the Swiss team until earlier this year, and was therefore in charge of the impressive 2012 Sauber C31, amid speculation he had headed to Lotus’ sports car project. But the media reports, including in the major German daily Bild, say Ferrari is now interested, particularly because Key is already familiar with the Italian marque through Sauber’s use of the Ferrari drivetrain. However, when asked what truth there is to the Key rumours, Ferrari spokesman Luca Colajanni snapped: “Nothing, nada, niente!” |

Ferrari to push for stability after exhaust farceComments Off Luca di Montezemolo has slammed F1′s constantly changing rules. The Ferrari president was referring to the recent British grand prix, at which the saga surrounding the evolving blown exhaust regulations was denounced as the “biggest farce ever” by outspoken Niki Lauda. “Unfortunately we have to deal with a carousel of changes to the regulations, which does not help us,” Montezemolo told Sky Italia this week as he insisted the famous Maranello team will push ahead with its 2011 car project. “Once, the rules were changed after every year, then it was every six months, now they change within a weekend,” he added. Montezemolo said Ferrari contributed to the solution of the blown exhaust saga at Silverstone even though it disadvantaged the famous team. “The situation was paradoxical,” he is quoted by La Stampa, “but sometimes you have to put aside your personal interests. We want what is good for formula one.” But he is quoted by Turun Sanomat newspaper: “This must definitely end. Rules should be made to last. Ferrari will definitely take up this issue with the rule makers.” Meanwhile, Montezemolo confirmed once again that Felipe Massa’s 2012 contract will be honoured. “Are the rumours about Felipe false? Absolutely. This is the period for these stories but the (Ferrari) drivers will be the same next year,” he said. |

Ferrari confirms McLaren’s Pat Fry joining teamComments Off Ferrari on Tuesday confirmed reports that Pat Fry is joining the famous Italian team. It emerged at the weekend that the 46-year-old Briton, who until recently was heading McLaren’s 2011 car project as long-time joint chief engineer, was linked with a move to the Maranello based squad. Italian reports had said Fry, although currently on compulsory ‘gardening leave’, will be able to have an impact on Ferrari’s next car. A team statement on Tuesday confirmed that Fry will begin his new role as assistant technical director, reporting to Aldo Costa, on 1 July. Ferrari said the “structure of the technical department remains (otherwise) unchanged”. Fry joined McLaren from Benetton in 1993. “I think it was probably good for him, the right decision for him to take a bit of a break, take a breather,” McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh said last month.
