Carbonell enters Formula 1 at the hand of HRT Formula 1 Team Carbonell enters Formula 1 at the hand of HRT Formula 1 Team(0)

Carbonell and HRT Formula 1 Team have signed a collaboration deal through which the leading olive oil brand will have its image present on the drivers’ overalls, whilst also forming a part of the exclusive culinary experience that the team has created alongside Arzak-Bokado.

The squad of Arzak-Bokado chefs travel with the team and have their operational base in the new motorhome hospitality during European races, whereas in overseas races they use the facilities provided by each circuit to maintain the same quality service. They offer a gastronomic experience that meets the different needs of team members and exclusive guests of the team, using fresh national products of the highest quality that characterize the extraordinary and renowned Spanish cuisine, whilst also leaning upon chefs and suppliers at each of the 19 countries visited throughout the season.

Besides the different menus, the gourmet experience also includes gastronomic activities at the circuit such as the “show cooking” or the “lightning pintxo”, which HRT offers every Grand Prix Sunday before the race for team members, guests, international press and organizers who travel the globe covering Formula 1 all to enjoy.

The presence of Carbonell, world leader in olive oil, will provide an extra contribution to that gastronomic experience whilst also enjoying an unbeatable platform for the brand because of the quality and worldwide reach of the team’s activities in a setting such as Formula 1. Carbonell has chosen the pinnacle of motorsport and HRT Formula 1 Team, the first and only team in the history of this competition to have its headquarters in Spain, to begin this unique culinary experience in Formula 1 and will also be the team’s exclusive brand for olive oil, olives and vinegar.

The agreement, which was signed by José María Collantes, Managing Director of Deoleo S.A, and Luis Pérez-Sala, Team Principal of HRT Formula 1 Team, at the team’s new headquarters in the Caja Mágica in Madrid, is valid until the end of 2012 with an option to extend. With this, Carbonell becomes the first Spanish food brand to be present in the Formula 1 World Championship.

Jose María Collantes, Managing Director Deoleo S.A: “The partnership between HRT, Carbonell and Arzak will enable to strengthen the link between Formula 1 and the gastronomic world thanks to HRT with an exclusive gourmet experience through which Carbonell will take part in every aspect related to the team’s kitchen, as well as all the culinary activities at the Grands Prix. By supporting such a popular sport as Formula 1, Carbonell will have great visibility and will secure its place as an innovative brand in the world of olive oil, vinegar and olives”.

Luis Pérez-Sala, Team Principal HRT: “It’s a great satisfaction for HRT to begin a partnership with Carbonell, a world renowned Spanish brand in the food sector. This association offers an opportunity to make the most of and strengthen the synergies of both companies on a worldwide base. Besides, Carbonell integrates perfectly with our gastronomic partners, Arzak-Bokado, to offer a gourmet experience made up of Spanish cuisine and fusion in the different countries where we compete. We thank Carbonell for the confidence they have deposited in us and we will continue to work hard to be competitive in an extremely demanding environment. With everyone’s effort we will reach our targets”.

Haug thinks conditions for Porsche entry unlikely Haug thinks conditions for Porsche entry unlikelyComments Off

The chances of seeing Porsche on the formula one grid in the near future have taken a backwards step.

The Volkswagen group, perhaps with the Porsche or Audi brands, has flagged entering the sport in 2013 along with a radical new engine formula.

But the German marque has made it abundantly clear that it needs the FIA to impose the so-called ‘world engine’ concept; a basic engine formula that can be applied across various premier motor sport categories.

SID news agency quotes Mercedes chief Norbert Haug as saying: “In the formula one meetings that I have attended, the ‘world engine’ was never a topic.”

In fact, he indicated that reports suggesting F1′s existing engine makers – concerned about the cost of implementing revolutionary rules changes – are pushing to retain some semblance of “stability” beyond 2012, are true.

Hankook eyes F1 tyre supply deal in near future Hankook eyes F1 tyre supply deal in near futureComments Off

Jun.8 (GMM)  Hankook is no longer in the running to supply tyres to F1 teams in 2011, but the Korean company is not ruling out another bid within the next “two or three years”.

Michelin, Kumho and Avon were also interested in replacing the sport’s departing official supplier Bridgestone, but it is believed Pirelli is now in pole position for the deal.

But executive vice president Hyan Bum Cho told the Sydney Morning Herald that Seoul-based Hankook might be interested in succeeding the Italian marque.

“Currently we do have a little Le Mans team, and some rally teams here and there, and we try to sell some motor sports tyres,” he is quoted by the Australian newspaper.

“In the future we want to have some hefty market share in that segment.  It’s quite profitable, but in order to really leverage from motor sports in terms of brands, you need to participate in either world rally championship or a very high segment in Le Mans, or formula one,” added Cho.

“So in the future that’s the target that we have, to participate in those segments.  And that’s going to cost a lot of money, a lot of development cost, a lot of investment, and also how to run these operations with experience.”

Hankook’s Cho confirmed that becoming the new formula one supplier next year was discussed.

“Probably you know that Mr Ecclestone has some trouble with tyres this year.  I talked to him personally (but) we decided not to go on with the programme.

“He needed a tyre very, very quick, and we could not prepare it,” Cho admitted.

“But we had a very good talk and maybe we’ll have a shot for next term, or another term.”

Vettel eyes Ferrari seat ‘in a few years’ Vettel eyes Ferrari seat ‘in a few years’Comments Off

Sebastian Vettel has repeated his desire to one day race a Ferrari in formula one.

With Vettel under a longer contract to Red Bull, his teammate, Mark Webber, is being linked with a move for 2011 to the famous Italian team.

“I am very happy with Red Bull,” the 22-year-old German told Spain’s El Pais newspaper.

“I am not going anywhere else, but in the future, I don’t know.

“I want to fight for the world championship, and if you look at the past, Ferrari has always designed very competitive cars.

“Why not go there in a few years?” Vettel admitted.

He added: “Ferrari is unlike any other team, it’s a legend. There are other brands that achieve great success, but Ferrari is special.”

Bernie Ecclestone is said to be pushing very hard for Vettel, the F1 chief executive’s unabashed favourite, to end up in red overalls.

“I don’t think that’s true,” Vettel insisted. “I have a good relationship with Bernie, but fortunately I will decide my future.”

Pirelli does not want F1 tyre rivals Pirelli does not want F1 tyre rivalsComments Off

Pirelli has clarified that it is not interested in competing in formula one with other tyre suppliers.

It was confirmed officially last week that the Italian marque has submitted an application to replace Bridgestone as the sport’s sole supplier.

Michelin also wants to come back to formula one next year, and it has been rumoured in recent days that Pirelli might be willing to satisfy the French company’s desire to race against other tyre brands.

“At the moment we are having discussions about a single supplier situation, not about an open market,” Pirelli’s racing manager Mario Isola is quoted by Auto Hebdo.

The latest edition of the French magazine also said Bridgestone, Avon, Kumho and Hankook are the other candidates to supply F1 teams next year.

The teams are pushing hard for clarity about 2011 tyre supply, but it is now rumoured that a resolution is unlikely by the end of the Monaco race weekend.

“The good news is there appears to be several companies interested in supplying tyres to formula one,” said FOTA chairman Martin Whitmarsh.

Bridgestone says F1 still important and significant Bridgestone says F1 still important and significantComments Off

Bridgestone is showing signs of performing a dramatic U-turn and staying in formula one beyond 2010.

Currently, the Japanese supplier is due to depart at the end of the season, as potential replacements including Michelin, Pirelli, Avon, Kumho and possibly others clamour at the paddock turnstiles.

But the teams are trying to persuade Bridgestone to stay, and have written a letter to Bridgestone Europe that will be passed on to CEO Shoshi Arakawa.

“The request is an honour,” said the marque’s F1 boss Hiroshi Yasukawa.

Before departing Barcelona, he indicated in a statement that F1 is still important to Bridgestone.

“We hosted guests from the USA and Brazil as well as many from our European markets which has illustrated the importance of formula one as a business tool,” said Yasukawa.

“Our sales companies continue to support our formula one activities, showing the significance of this to our business.

“We are proud to have the support of all of the teams in this fantastic sport,” he added.

FOTA chairman Martin Whitmarsh said the teams are hoping the issue of 2011 tyre supply is settled in Monaco this weekend, but Stefano Domenicali fears it might take another week.

“There are four proposals that appear to be out there and maybe there’s another couple as well,” Whitmarsh confirmed to Reuters.

And with Michelin wanting tyre competitors and the smaller teams wanting cheaper options, the Briton admitted that the concept of multiple brands in F1 next year is not out of the question.

But he insisted: “If you use multiple suppliers, it has got to be controlled in terms of testing and development.”

Christian Horner thinks that F1 could lose engine suppliers Christian Horner thinks that F1 could lose engine suppliersComments Off

Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, has advised that F1 could lose its engine suppliers if the engine freeze rule is maintained.
Last year, Mercedes was considered the most powerful engine of the grid. The main teams urged the FIA to allow them to update their engines during a given period of time, consenting on minor relevance enhancements and readjustments. As a result, “the ‘touches to the engine’ are quite limited.”
Even though, in the Regulation there isn’t a stipulation for engine equality, the fall of Honda, Toyota and BMW means that there are only four engine manufacturers left: Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault and Cosworth. On this regard, Horner seems worried because, if the engine freeze rule hinders the manufacturers to enhance the engines they sale, everybody will choose the most powerful to this date, and this would force the others out. In other words, there’s the possibility that there would only be two brands left.
“FIA has all the information at hand to decide upon an adjustment to the engines,” Horner said from Germany to the Auto Bild Motorsport magazine. “It would be a disaster to lose another engine manufacturer at the end of the year, because they cannot compete with the others. The chassis development rules are so strict that the engine plays an ever more important role everyday.”
This year’s refueling ban means that fuel consumption will become a critical factor in the races. Renault, which supplies its engines to Red Bull, as well as the factory team, believe they have more efficient engines regarding fuel consumption, even though they have slightly less horse power.
An engine with better consumption will allow the team to refill less fuel at the beginning of the race, which is a factor that will have a value of tenths of lapping time during the first laps of a Grand Prix. Fuel levels will no longer have an incidence on the scoring times, because the first ten will not have to perform the Q3, with enough fuel to start the race.
For this reason, the single-seaters with Renault engine, could get a worse scoring in the Q3 but make significant progress during the first laps, thanks to their weight/load ratio.

Should You Breastfeed Or Formula Feed Should You Breastfeed Or Formula FeedComments Off

Breastfeeding and Formula Today, breastfeeding is being encouraged over baby formula feeding because of the many advantages for both mother and child. For the child, it gets all the nutrients it needs from breast milk, plus the mother’s anti bodies, which will help the child develop resistance to certain viral and bacterial infections. Breastfeeding also helps in developing physical and emotional bond between mother and child, since there is constant physical contact, and the baby feels secure in its mother’s arms. For the mother, breastfeeding is more convenient and is more practical because there is no need for milk bottles, no need to wash and sterilize bottles, and there is no need to get up at the middle of the night to prepare a bottle of milk. Breastfeeding also does not cause too much burping on infants. However, there are times when breastfeeding is no longer possible, for reasons such as the following:- The mother needs to take medication because of an illness or a deficiency in certain nutrients- The mother’s breast does not produce enough milk- The baby is not able to suckle on his mother’s breast because of some birth defect – The mother eats foods that causes an allergic reaction to the baby – The baby is not the biological child of the mother, in cases of adoption- The baby is being solely cared for by his father, or by a guardian- The mother has to go to work on a full time basisOther concerns such as personal or religious beliefs may also hinder a mother to breastfeed. In these cases, baby formula feeding can be a substitute to make sure that the baby still gets the nutrients he needs to maintain a healthy body. There are a lot of choices for formula feeding, and there are special infant formulas that address certain peculiar health concerns such as babies with sensitive digestive systems, where they cannot digest ordinary milk formula. There are also baby formulas that are fortified with certain vitamins and minerals that are helpful in the physical development of the baby. Before proceeding to using baby formula, parents should consult the baby’s pediatrician to make sure that their baby formula feeding is done right. Milk labels already have instructions on how frequent the baby should be fed, and the amount of powdered formula to add to a given amount of water. When changing milk formula brands, this should be done slowly, and it should not be a sudden change, because the baby might not like the taste of the new brand. It is advisable to first adjust the measurement, for example, for the first week, four scoops of formula can be divided into a ratio of three is to one (three scoops old brand and one scoop new brand), and the new brand can be increased until the baby has gotten used to the new brand. Baby formula feeding is not a hindrance to achieving a healthy mother and child bond. When bottle feeding, the baby should still be held in a way that it is still close to the mother’s breasts. Breastmilk may be replaced, but the mother is irreplaceable.

To help consumers to gain more insights regarding these infants formula, here is a run down of some of the myths and truths about it:IT IS INDEED THE BEST SUBSTITUTE FOR BREAST MILK: False – No milk formula can take the place of the natural recipe of breast milk. That means, no matter how much more chemicals manufacturers of these milk formulas add to their product, it cannot be the same as what breast milk can offer. Moreover, there are many more benefits listed under breastfeeding than feeding a baby with these artificially prepared baby milk products.IT IS MORE POPULAR THAN BREAST MILK: True – There have been surveys around the globe that shows a lot of mothers who are now using milk formulas to feed their children rather than breast feeding them. There are even surveys that show mothers getting more satisfied using infants formula, which booms the industry that deals with it to generate billions and billions of income annually. Bottle-feeding with a baby formula is common especially among mothers who belong under the classification of young professionals, such as those who are working in the offices or having a job that requires them to be away from their babies at least eight to ten hours daily.IT CONTAINS ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS: True and False – It contains similar nutrients as with breast milk, such as iron and calcium. There are some manufacturers who add more elements, such as ARA and DHA, which are essential for brain growth and function. Although these milk formulas were enriched with these nutrients, these also lack other vital elements that will support more the mental and physical health of the baby.IT IS CHEAP: False – Breast milk is cheaper because it is free. Formulas:
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, babies under 12 months of age should be fed either breastmilk or infant formula. No other type of milk provides all of the nutrients in the right amounts to support optimal growth. Formula companies use human milk as a standard and produce a product, usually based on cows’ milk, which contains proteins, fats and carbohydrates in a proportion that is close to human milk. Then they add vitamins, minerals and other ingredients to bring the final product as close to human milk as possible. As ongoing research reveals factors in mothers’ milk that were previously not known, the drug companies that manufacture infant formula add them, and advertise the product as being “new” or “improved.” Some recent additions are ARA and DHA. Read labels carefully to know what is in the brand you purchase. When you choose a formula for your baby, it is usually best to start with one that is milk-based, since these are tolerated by most babies and are lower in cost than the specialized formulas. If your baby does not tolerate his formula, consult your pediatrician about which one to try next. While soy based formulas contain all of the nutrients needed to sustain growth, they also contain phytoestrogens that may affect a baby’s growth and development, and they hinder the absorption of zinc and calcium. According to an FDA paper, the AAP states “Healthy full-term infants should be given soy formula only when medically necessary.” (http://www.fda.gov/Fdac/features/596_baby.html) Specialized formulas for allergic babies are more expensive, and should be used on the recommendation of a pediatrician.
Bottles:
If your formula feed your baby, you will need bottles, nipples (teats), and a bottle brush for effective cleaning. There are many types and styles of bottles available, and what you choose depends upon your preference.
Bottles with disposable liners are fairly easy to use and easy to clean, but they are more expensive than other types because the liners have to be purchased throughout the months that your baby uses a bottle. Plastic bottles are lightweight, and most are easy to clean with hot soapy water and a brush. In recent months, news articles have warned about possible dangers from the leaching of a chemical called bisphenol A or BPA into milk from the plastic when bottles are heated, and also from the linings of the can the formula comes in. Although the FDA states that plastic bottles do not present a hazard to babies, you might want to research the different brands to see which are considered safer before purchasing bottles for your baby. A google search turned up lists of brands which are BPA free.
Different babies do better with different types of nipples. You should choose those with a slow flow at first, especially for a very young baby. If the milk flows too fast the baby may choke, or take in too much air. Be sure to replace nipples that become worn so that they do not break during a feeding. At times a baby who is teething may chew on the nipple and cause tiny pieces to come off, so inspect them on a regular basis.
Formula Preparation:
Infant formula comes in three forms: ready to feed, concentrate, and powder. Ready to feed formula is the easiest to use. It can be stored at room temperature until the can is opened, and is fed to the baby directly as it comes from the can. It is, however, expensive compared to the other types. Both other forms of formula must be mixed with water before feeding. It is very important to read the directions on the can to be sure that you add exactly the right amount of water so that the milk the baby receives is neither too dilute (which could lead to malnutrition) nor too concentrated (which could be hard on the baby’s kidneys). Some pediatricians (and the World Health Organization) recommend boiling all water prior to using it for a baby. Other doctors feel that it is OK to use water directly from the tap as long as it has been proven safe for drinking. If you are not sure, ask your pediatrician. Powdered formula is not sterile, and in recent months, reports have warned about the potential contamination of some such formulas with Enterobacter sakazakii, a bacteria that can cause infections in all ages, but newborns (under 1 month of age) and premature babies are at greatest risk. The World Health Organization recommends that formula given to these infants be ready to feed, or concentrate. If powdered formula must be used for a newborn, it should be prepared with boiling water or heated almost to boiling, then cooled before feeding to kill the bacteria if it is present. Once it is prepared, the formula should be refrigerated or kept cold with ice packs until the baby is fed. Discard any unused milk left in the bottle after feeding, since bacteria multiply quickly in warmed milk. Heating baby bottles in the microwave is not recommended because “hot spots” that can scald a baby may occur. If you do use a microwave, be sure to shake the bottle thoroughly to mix the formula completely. (Never microwave expressed breastmilk because that would kill some of the living cells that protect the baby from illness.)
Feeding the Baby:
Feeding time is very important in terms of your baby’s emotional and social well-being. You should always hold your baby in your arms when giving him a bottle, and cuddle him close. This is a good time to talk to your baby, look into his eyes, and watch him smile and interact with you. His head should be slightly elevated because most bottle nipples flow fast enough to choke a baby who is lying flat when he swallows. When feeding a newborn, stop and try to burp the baby every ounce or so. As baby grows, he can take in larger amounts without burping. Ask your pediatrician how much formula to feed your baby. Don’t force him to finish a bottle if he stops drinking and acts full. Most babies know how much they need, and overfeeding can predispose him to obesity later on. Never prop a bottle because of the danger of choking, and don’t put your baby to bed with a bottle. Milk that remains on his teeth during the night will promote tooth decay.
However your baby is fed, feeding time should be very comfortable and enjoyable for both of you.
